It's hot - 5 weeks and counting of sunshine and broken sleep, with only 1 day of drizzly rain. I shouldn't complain, but did I mention it's hot? Despite the heat, Billie dog still wants to be out chasing sticks and butterflies until she pants like a hyperventilating toddler, dragging us in her wake through parched landscapes.

Dog finds stick
A big stick
A ridiculous stick
I am hot
Wood crumbles in my hand
Soft with insects brittle from the sun.
Beads of sweat roll
At napes of necks
Backs of knees
Elbow cleft
Sticky in the shade of trees.
